Life is full of surprises. Some surprises bring joy and excitement, while others come unexpectedly and may leave us feeling unsettled or unsure. As believers, we are called to respond to every situation. Whether it's a good or challenging situation, we are to respond with wisdom, grace, and trust in God.
What the Bible Says About Life’s Unexpected Moments
The Bible reminds us that nothing catches God off guard, not even when it surprises us.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says:
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Even when something unexpected happens, we are called to trust God, knowing He is still in control.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says:
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
This reminds us that every moment, whether it's planned or unplanned, it has a purpose in God’s timing.
Handling Unwanted Surprises
Not every surprise feels good. Some may bring discomfort, pressure, or even confusion.
When faced with an unwanted surprise:
Pause and pray before reacting.
Seek God’s wisdom before making a decision.
Respond with kindness and honesty.
Example:
If someone presents you with an unexpected opportunity or request that doesn’t sit right with your spirit, you can respond gently by saying:
Thank you for thinking of me, but I’ll need to pass at this time.
This allows you to remain respectful while also honoring your peace.
James 1:5 says:
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
God is always ready to guide us in uncertain moments.
Embracing Joyful Surprises
Other surprises bring happiness, unexpected blessings, answered prayers, or moments of favor.
When these come:
Receive them with gratitude.
Give thanks to God.
Remain humble and joyful.
James 1:17 says:
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Good surprises are reminders of God’s love and provision.
In conclusion, whether a surprise brings joy or challenge, God is present in it all. When we trust Him, seek His wisdom, and respond with grace, we can navigate every unexpected moment with peace and confidence.
